Trek up Mount Kenya’s Sirimon Route to Point Lenana (4,985 m) for sunrise, then descend the Chogoria Route past the gorge valley to a lodge night on the eastern side of the mountain.

This four-day trek takes you up Mount Kenya, Africa’s second-highest mountain, on the Sirimon Route and down the Chogoria Route on the eastern side. You walk through the forest and across the moorland, up the Mackinder Valley to Shipton Camp at the foot of the main peaks, then make an early climb to Point Lenana (4,985 m) for sunrise before a long descent past the gorge valley to Mt Kenya Anabas Lodge.
Your private trek is led by an experienced guide with a cook and porters. All meals on the trek, park entrance fees and transfers from and back to Nairobi are included.
After pick-up in Nairobi, drive north to Nanyuki, where the cook and porters join the team, then continue for about an hour to the Sirimon Gate (2,650 m), where the trek begins. After checking in with the park authorities, you hike through the forest with your guide, cook and porters to Old Moses Camp (3,300 m), arriving in the afternoon.
Distance: 9 km · about 3 hours walking
After breakfast, hike across the moorland, looking out for high-altitude plants, wildlife and birds, then up the Mackinder Valley to Shipton Camp (4,200 m) at the foot of the main peaks. Take it slowly – pole pole, as the guides say – to help your body adjust to the altitude.
Distance: 16 km · about 6–7 hours walking
Climb to Point Lenana (4,985 m) in time for sunrise and take photos from the top. After sunrise, descend to meet the team on the way to Mintos Camp, where you stop for breakfast. Then continue down the Chogoria Route for about 5 hours, with views over the gorge valley, to Mt Kenya Anabas Lodge for a hot shower, dinner and overnight.
Distance: 26 km · 12+ hours – the longest day of the trek
After breakfast (7:00–8:00 am), say farewell to the crew and walk through the forest to meet your vehicle at Chogoria village, then drive back to Nairobi for drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
Distance: 8 km · about 2 hours walking
